Board of Directors

The current board of directors for FLYworks is made up of its two founders, Kathy and Mike Wood, and Rhonda Valencia. All three are deeply involved with FLYworks and wear many hats as directors, corporate officers, and executive officers:

Such a small number of directors, especially those who are executive officers, is not considered proper for any non-profit organization. Obviously, that needs to change.

Why the Small Board?
After shutting down FLY Dance Company, it took several months to determine the scope of the new mission's activities and to put as many of them as possible in action. The intent was to demonstrate to potential board members that the vision could be a reality and give them confidence that the mission was worthy and doable. That good beginning has been made. Now FLYworks is ready to expand the board.

Serving on the Board
FLYworks directors serve as unpaid volunteers. Members of the board provide oversight for the non-profit organization and ultimately have responsibility for it. Meetings are quarterly.

Financial Status
Shutting down FLY Dance Company and changing the mission disrupted revenue from paid performances and grants which had to be returned or cancelled. Reviewing the Financials will show that FLYworks started over with very little funds in hand and had a significant waiting period for reapplying for certain grants. You will see that FLYworks has been funded during this period primarily by FLY KiDS tuition fees and loans from the founders.

Wanted: Board members who feel strongly that the FLYworks mission is worthy and will generously give of their time, good judgment, labor, influence, financial resources, and moral support.
