FLYworks Plan
We asked ourselves these questions and the answers became the plan.
Where do we get the right dance style?
All we needed to do was fuse the "show biz"dance style created for FLY Dance Company by FLYworks
artistic director Kathy Wood with the enthusiastic dance style created by FLY KiDS director Rhonda Valencia for her dance team
at Morris Fifth Grade Center. Each style had been developed on untrained dancers and had proved its appeal in performance after
performance. This new style uses movement most kids can already do, is popular, easily learned, fun to do, and delightful to
watch.
What kids need this kind of dance program?
-
Kids who need positive connections to their schools.
-
Kids who are attracted to dance but do not have access to training.
-
Kids who need exercise but are not into sports.
-
Kids who need to rechannel their energy into a positive activity.
-
Kids who need to build self-esteem and confidence.
-
Kids who want to be part of a team.
-
Kids who need to learn about setting and working toward goals.
How will FLYworks reach these kids?
-
With FLY KiDS and FLY Crew, FLYworks' showcase groups, FLYworks will show by example the dance style and how much fun being on a dance team can be.
-
Through workshops, lecture/demonstrations, and teaching materials
for P.E. and dance teachers, FLYworks staff will "show and tell" how to integrate fun,
choreographed dance into P.E. curricula, school dance programs, and after school programs.
-
Through training videos produced by FLYworks, our staff
and FLY KiDS members will teach and demonstrate the FLY KiDS dance style and choreography.
-
Through youth dance camps, FLYworks will offer dance technique,
stagecraft, and choreography by FLYworks staff and guest artists.
-
Through FLYworks hosted youth dance festivals, FLYworks will provide opportunities for
schools and other dance programs to exhibit their work and see the work of others in a theater in front of a large,
appreciative audience of their peers.
